A teaser trailer has been revealed for a new version of musical The Wiz at the Hope Mill Theatre, featuring Cherelle Williams as Dorothy.

The production arrives at the Manchester venue from Wednesday 24 November 2021 to Sunday 16 January 2022.

Directed by Matthew Xia, The Wiz is joyful retelling of the classic The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, reflecting contemporary African-American culture. Its 1975 Broadway premiere production won seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical.

Cast includes Cherelle Wiliams as Dorothy, Tarik Frimpong as Scarecrow; Llewellyn Graham as Tin Man, Jonathan Andre as Lion, Cameron Bernard Jones as The Wiz, Anelisa Lamola as Addaperle, Bree Smith as Aunt Em and Glinda, Kofi Dennis as Lord High and Ashh Blackwood as Evillene.

Ensemble features Andile Mabhena, Shayna McPherson, Dylan Gordon-Jones, Samantha Shuma and Marisha Morgan.

The show is produced by Hope Mill Theatre, Ameena Hamid Productions and Chuchu Nwagu Productions.

Creative team includes musical supervisor and orchestrations by  Sean Green, musical director Ehsaan Shivarani, choreographer Leah Hill, designer Simon Kenny, associate costume designer Maybelle Laye, lighting designer Simisola Majekodunmi, sound designer Tony Gayle, casting director Ryan Carter and casting mentor Anne Vosser.
