
New dates have been announced for the reopening of Cameron Mackintosh’s record-breaking tour of Les Misérables. The production is set to open at the Glasgow Theatre Royal on 24 November, before embarking on an extensive UK tour.
The Boublil and Schönberg musical will run at the Glasgow venue until 1 January 2022, before travelling to Liverpool Empire from 5 to 22 January 2022, Bord Gáis Energy Theatre Dublin from 8 to 26 February 2022, The Mayflower, Southampton from 8 to 26 March 2022, The Lowry, Salford from 29 March to 23 April 2022, Milton Keynes Theatre from 26 April to 21 May 2022, Theatre Royal Plymouth from 24 May to 11 June 2022, Hull New Theatre from 15 June to 9 July 2022, Bristol Hippodrome from 12 July to 6 August 2022), Birmingham Hippodrome from 9 to 27 August 2022, Norwich Theatre Royal from 31 August to 24 September 2022, Marlowe Theatre, Canterbury from 30 September to 29 October 2022, Sunderland Empire from 1 to 19 November 2022, Leeds Grand Theatre from 24 November to 10 December 2022 and Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff from 13 December 2022 to 14 January 2023.
Cast includes Dean Chisnall as Jean Valjean, Nic Greenshields as Javert and Katie Hall as Fantine, with full casting to be announced soon.
This new production of Les Misérables was first conceived in 2009 to celebrate the show’s 25 anniversary. It toured the UK throughout 2009 to 2010, concluding with a season at the Barbican.
Les Misérables includes showstopping songs such as “I Dreamed a Dream”, “On My Own”, “Stars”, “Bring Him Home”, “Do You Hear the People Sing?”, “One Day More”, “Empty Chairs at Empty Tables” and much, much more. It has been seen by over 120 million people worldwide in 52 countries and in 22 languages.
Mackintosh’s production is written by Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg and is based on the novel by Victor Hugo.
It features music by Schönberg, lyrics by Herbert Kretzmer and original French text by Boublil and Jean-Marc Natel, additional material by James Fenton and original adaptation by Trevor Nunn and John Caird.
The production is directed by Laurence Connor and James Powell, with design by Matt Kinley inspired by the paintings of Victor Hugo with costumes by Andreane Neofitou and Christine Rowland, lighting by Paule Constable, sound by Mick Potter, musical staging by Michael Ashcroft and Geoffrey Garratt, projections by Fifty-Nine Productions and music supervision by Stephen Brooker and Graham Hurman.
