A new season of outdoor performances has been announced at The Watermill Theatre, featuring their comedy version of The Hound of the Baskervilles, a sustainability-focused As You Like It and a concert version of Stiles & Drewe’s Just So.
Audiences will be able to enjoy alfresco theatre with socially distanced table seating in The Watermill’s gardens. There will also be a limited number of solo seats available.
Opening on 21 May is the return of the critically-acclaimed comedy version of Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock tale The Hound of the Baskervilles. Brought to life by a trio of actors, the show is devised by the company and directed by Abigail Pickard Price. The production runs until 24 May.
The Watermill Ensemble’s sustainability-focused production of Shakespeare’s As You Like It, which is adapted by Yolanda Mercy and directed by the venue’s artistic director Paul Hart, a cast of twelve actor-musos will play to an atmospheric modern folk landscape. The show features music inspired by Mumford & Sons, Fleet Foxes, Bon Iver and Taylor Swift. As You Like It will play on the main lawn from 24 June to 24 July.
The show uses responsibly sourced, repurposed, or recyclable materials for the set, props and costumes, with a focus on eco-friendly practices both on and off stage.
There will also be a semi-staged concert version of Stiles & Drewe’s musical Just So, which sees five of Rudyard Kipling’s stories blended together to create a tale of courage, friendship and the power of an individual to make a difference.
The show will be directed by Abigail Pickard Price, with Tarek Merchant as musical director. It will run from 30 July to 4 September.
