Musical theatre’s leading lady Kerry Ellis sings a new version of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Memory” from Cats, in support of Acting For Others. The tune features new theatre-related lyrics referencing pantomime, Shakespeare, Dear Evan Hansen and Singin’ in the Rain.

The number includes an accompanying video with haunting images of empty theatres from across the UK, with photographs taken by award-winning actor and photographer Bill Ward (Everybody’s Talking About Jamie).

New lyrics from the number have been written by Jon Monie, and are littered with references to the theatrical community. It has been released to raise awareness of the current crisis facing the industry.

Monie, who initiated the idea, wrote the lyrics and approached Bill and Kerry, also making the video.

He says, “Whilst the government’s recent announcements regarding the proposed return of live indoor performances are hugely welcome, fully reopened venues remain several months away at best. The theatre industry will be one of the very last to return to normal and people in all areas of the business are really struggling. But we are still here, waiting in the wings.”
