Curve Leicester and Birmingham Hippodrome’s award-winning production of musical The Color Purple is to be streamed online from 16 February to 7 March. The event will also offer 2,000 free tickets to NHS staff.
After the major success of Sunset Boulevard – at Home, Curve have announced that they will stream The Color Purple after the planned run of live performances has been cancelled due to uncertainty around national restrictions. The musical will safely bring together the 2019 cast in a fully-reimagined concert version.
The musical stars T’Shan Williams as Celie, with Danielle Fiamanya as Nettie, Karen Mavundukure as Sofia, Ako Mitchell as Mister and Simon Anthony Rhoden as Harpo. Carly Mercedes Dyer, who played Anita in the acclaimed Made at Curve production of West Side Story. joins the cast as Shug Avery.
Additional cast includes Geoff Aymer, KM Drew Boateng, Owen Chaponda, Perola Congo, Danielle Kassarate, Anelisa Lamola, Rosemary Annabella Nkrumah, Jochebel Ohene MacCarthy, Landi Oshinowo and Jo Servi.
The Color Purple is based on Alice Walker’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel of the same name, and this concert production is directed by Tinuke Craig, alongside musical director Alex Parker, designer Alex Lowde, choreographer Mark Smith, sound designer Tom Marshall and casting director Kay Magson CDG, with lighting by Ben Cracknell.
Tickets for The Color Purple – at Home are available to book now and are priced at £20 per household. The streamed production will be available to audiences in the UK and Ireland only and Curve will offer a range of accessible performances throughout the run, including captioned and audio described.
