The world premiere of highly-anticipated new musical Vanara is set to take place at Hackney Empire this year, from Friday 22 to Sunday 31 October 2021.
After two workshop performances, plus an acclaimed concept album, this ground-breaking show will open in East London for a limited season before embarking on a 2022 UK tour, with casting yet to be announced.
Vanara takes places as disaster threatens to destroy the world where two tribes are locked in an age-old battle. One young woman must make a choice – to protect the traditions of her people or challenge everything she has been taught.
Complete devastation is bearing down – will the two tribes be able to reunite before it’s too late?
The musical brings together an acclaimed international creative team, including score by Gianluca Cucchiara, lyrics by Andrew James Whelan, and book by Michael Conley. It is produced by Giovanna Romagnoli, with co-direction from dramaturg Adam Lenson and choreographer Eleesha Drennan.
Vanara has already gained cult status with its blend of theatre, contemporary dance and technical innovation.
