Told by an Idiot’s Charlie & Stan is set to open at the Theatre Royal Bath from 14 July and the Minack Theatre from 1 August, prior to a national tour and West End run.
Presented by David Pugh and written and directed by Paul Hunter, the show is based on the greatest comedy duo that never was…
In 1910, the then unknown Charlie Chaplin and Stan Laurel set sail aboard a tramp steamer from Liverpool to New York, as part of Fred Karno’s famous music hall troupe. On the voyage, they shared a cabin, comedy routines and laughter, but by the end of the journey they had drifted apart.
Inspired by real events, Charlie & Stan is Told by an Idiot’s acclaimed production that sees the remarkable story of a duo that nearly was! Featuring an original piano score, the show is a hilarious and moving tribute to the two men who changed the comedy world forever.
The show features design by Ioana Curelea, lighting design by Aideen Malone, video design by Dom Baker, original piano score by Mercury Award-nominee Zoe Rahman, song arrangement by Sophie Cotton, physical comedy consulting by Jos Houben and choreography by Nuna Sandy for ZooNation: The Kate Prince Company.
Charlie & Stan is from an idea by Irene Cotton, with additional material from the company.
