An exclusive clip of “Whatever Happens Next” has been released from Matthew Harvey’s British song cycle Now or Never. The Barn Theatre production returns for an on-demand digital run from 15 April to 9 May.
Now or Never first premiered as a livestream on the 1 April, and marked the first collaboration between The Barn Theatre and associate artist Harvey, who created the song cycle with the intention of writing about individual responses to global adversity without writing specifically about the pandemic.
The piece features seven songs with relatable everyday characters as they each take a defiant act of positivity in the face of adversity on what might be their last week on Earth.
A non-stop, one-shot, song cycle, with one camera navigating the entire building, Now or Never features seven characters moving between seven spaces.
Cast includes Eloise Davies (Be More Chill, Grease), Ahmed Hamad (Rent, Stay Awake Jake, The Boy in the Dress), Matthew Harvey (Les Misérables, Violet, Jesus Christ Superstar, Murder Ballad), Irvine Iqbal (The Boy in the Dress, Aladdin, Broken Wings), Lucy St Louis (Man of La Mancha, Motown, Beautiful), Katie Shearman (The Sound of Music UK Tour, Evita) and Courtney Stapleton (Dear Evan Hansen, Six, Les Misérables). The production also features a cameo performance from Olivier Award winner Janie Dee (Follies, Carousel).
Creative team includes musical supervisor Freddie Tapner, creative director Ryan Carter, director of photography Ben Collins, supported by Ben Thomas and Alex Tabrizi, plus sound designer Harry Smith.
