News: Winners Of The 2024 Olivier Awards

Last night (Sunday 14th April 2024) was the annual celebration of British Theatre, the Olivier Awards.

With spectacular performances and heart warming acceptance speeches it was a magical night celebrating Theatre. See the list of nominees and winners below.

Cunard Best Revival

Winner: Vanya by Anton Chekhov, adapted by Simon Stephens (Duke of York’s Theatre)

Nominees: The Effect by Lucy Prebble (National Theatre – Lyttelton), Macbeth by William Shakespeare (Donmar Warehouse) and Shirley Valentine by Willy Russell (Duke of York’s Theatre)

Best Actor in a Supporting Role

Winner: Will Close for Dear England (National Theatre – Olivier and Prince Edward Theatre)

Nominees: Paul Hilton for An Enemy of the People (Duke of York’s Theatre), Giles Terera for Clyde’s (Donmar Warehouse), Luke Thompson for A Little Life (Harold Pinter Theatre and Savoy Theatre) and Zubin Varla for A Little Life (Harold Pinter Theatre and Savoy Theatre).

Best Actress in a Supporting Role

Winner: Haydn Gwynne in When Winston Went To War With The Wireless (Donmar Warehouse)

Nominees: Lorraine Ashbourne in Till The Stars Come Down (National Theatre – Dorfman), Priyanga Burford in An Enemy of the People (Duke of York’s Theatre), Gina McKee in Dear England (National Theatre  – Olivier) and Tanya Reynolds in A Mirror (Almeida Theatre and Trafalgar Theatre).

Blue-I Theatre Technology Award for Best Set Design

Winner: Miriam Buether for Set Design and 59 Productions for Video Design for Stranger Things: The First Shadow (Phoenix Theatre)

Unusual Rigging Award for Outstanding Achievement in Affiliate Theatre

The Londoner Award for Best New Play

Outstanding Achievement in Dance

Winner: Isabela Coracy for her performance in NINA: By Whatever Means, part of Cassa Pacho’s Ballet Black: Pioneers (Barbican Theatre)

Nominees: Jonzi D for his artistic direction of Breakin’ Convention 2023 International Festival of Hip Hop Dance Theatre (Sadler’s Wells), Rhiannon Faith for her community focused conception of Lay Down Your Burdens (The Pit at Barbican).

Best New Dance Production

Winner: La Ruta by Gabriela Carrizo, part of Nederlands Dans Theatre – NDT 1 (Sadler’s Wells)
