In an exceptionally challenging year for theatre, it seems more important than ever to honour the industry that we all love – and what better time for a panto producer to celebrate than Panto Day?
This year is ‘The Year of Creativity’, and panto producers Imagine Theatre have seized the opportunity to unite their community who should have been treading the boards in pantoland this Christmas.
In a year where none of their live performances have been able to go ahead, Imagine Theatre decided to embark on a different kind of project to bring everyone together. They invited all members of the cast, crew, and creative teams from their 2019 panto season to take part in a fun online collaboration as a way of showcasing the array of skilled professionals it takes to bring a show to life.
Their cover of Gloria Estefan’s “Get On Your Feet” unites members from all 15 of their 2019 pantomimes and 3 pre-school Santa Shows from across the United Kingdom. It is certain to get you up dancing and remind you of the pure happiness and joy that theatre at Christmas time brings.
The result of this collaboration highlights what a wonderful team of people our industry is privileged to work with and will hopefully bring a smile to people’s faces in such strange times. It is important to remember that the darkness does not last – the bright lights of theatre will soon be shining again, and laughter will once more be heard in auditoriums throughout the country.
In the meantime, why not “Get on Your Feet” and celebrate with everyone this Panto Day as well as “Stand Up and take some action” by supporting in any way you can, your local theatres and the people who work in them, during what should be a thriving festive period.
