Hamilton released on Disney + on 3 July

The musical phenomenon Hamilton will be released to stream on Disney + from 3 July. The filmed version of the original Broadway production will allow fans to make their way virtually to the Richard Rogers Theatre and enjoy the epic show, which stars creator Lin Manuel Miranda among the cast.

The musical is based on Ron Chernow’s 2004 biography Alexander Hamilton, and centres around the life of this American Founding Father, creator of the country’s financial system and the first Secretary of the Treasury. It premiered off-Broadway at the Public Theater in February 2015 before moving to Broadway’s Richard Rodgers Theatre that summer. It’s the recipient of 11 Tony Awards, the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, and a Grammy.

The production was filmed in June 2016 with the full original principal company, which includes Miranda as Hamilton, Leslie Odom Jr as Aaron Burr, Daveed Diggs as Marquis de Lafayette/Thomas Jefferson, Renée Elise Goldsberry as Angelica Schuyler, Christopher Jackson as George Washington, Jonathan Groff as King George, Phillipa Soo as Eliza Hamilton, Jasmine Cephas Jones as Peggy Schuyler/Maria Reynolds, Okieriete Onaodowan as Hercules Mulligan/James Madison, and Anthony Ramos as John Laurens/Philip Hamilton.

The ensemble is made up of mostly original cast members, and a few replacements. That full list includes Carleigh Bettiol, Ariana DeBose, Hope Easterbrook, Sydney James Harcourt, Sasha Hutchings, Thayne Jasperson, Elizabeth Judd, Jon Rua, Austin Smith, Seth Stewart and Ephraim Sykes.
