News: Darren Day to join Chicago UK and Ireland tour

Stage and screen star Darren Day is set to join the UK and Ireland tour cast of musical sensation Chicago, as the flamboyant Billy Flynn. The touring production is set to open at Glasgow King’s Theatre from 11 September.

He joins a previously announced Faye Brookes as Roxie Hart, Sinitta as Mama Morton and Divina de Campo as Mary Sunshine, as well as Djalenga Scott as Velma Kelly and Joel Montague as Amos Hart.

Darren Day’s West End credits include Joseph and his Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Copacabana and Grease, with touring credits including We Will Rock You, The Rocky Horror Show, Priscilla Queen of the Desert The Musical and more.

Further cast includes Ishmail Aaron, Michelle Andrews, Gabby Antrobus, Delycia Belgrave, Joel Benjamin, Tanisha-Mae Brown, Daniel Clift, Callum Fitzgerald, Emily Goodenough, Billie Hardy, Aaron Jenkins, Liam Marcellino, Theo Reece, Hollie Jane Stephens and Harrison Wilde.

Set amidst the razzle-dazzle of the 1920s, Chicago is the well-known story of Roxie Hart, who murders her on-the-side lover after he threatens to walk out on her.

Desperate to avoid conviction, she dupes the public, the media and her rival cellmate, Velma Kelly, by hiring the city’s slickest lawyer to transform her malicious crime into a barrage of sensational headlines.

Chicago is created by John Kander, Fred Ebb and legendary choreographer Bob Fosse, featuring show-stopping songs including “Razzle Dazzle”, “Cell Block Tango”, and “All That Jazz”.

The musical is the winner of six Tony Awards, two Olivier Awards and a Grammy.
