News: Barn Theatre announces two digital Michael Morpurgo classics

Barn Theatre has announced two digital Michael Morpurgo classics to arrive online this Spring.

An Elephant in the Garden comes 2 to 18 April, with critically acclaimed Private Peaceful 19 April to 2 May.

Following its 2020 Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania performances and successful UK tours, Poonamallee Productions bring their admired adaptation of An Elephant in the Garden to screens for the very first time.

Set in 1945 against the backdrop of the Dresden bombings, this adaptation by Simon Reade brings the vivid classic to life, performed by Alison Reid. It follows Lizzie, her mother and an elephant named Marlene, as the flee the Allied fire-bombing toward the end of the Second World War.

Private Peaceful tells the story of Private Tommo Peaceful as he looks back on his Devon upbringing and childhood romance with Molly, and the terrible events that saw him travel from this idyllic setting into the depths of war.

BoxLess Theatre’s two-hander of this stage production first opened as part of Barn Theatre’s outdoor theatre festival in August 2020, before transferring to the play’s original home – Bristol Old Vic. The play stars Emily Costello and James Demaine.

It was scheduled to transfer to the West End in November 2020 before the national lockdown was imposed.
