News: Akram Khan’s Jungle Book Reimagined to premiere at Leicester’s Curve

Akram Khan Company and Leicester’s Curve Theatre announce Akram Khan’s Jungle Book Reimagined – a deeply personal interpretation of Rudyard Kipling’s original story.

A brand new work from the legendary choreography Akram Khan, Jungle Book Reimagined will feature an original score and is set to have a world premiere at Curve from 2 to 9 April 2022.

A stellar creative team includes writing by Tariq Jordan, dramaturgy by Sharon Clark, and music contribution by Anoushka Shankhar, lighting by Michael Hulls, visual stage design by Tom Scutt, animation by Naaman Azhari, projection by Yeast Culture, and insight of film director Andy Serkis.

The stage is set to be transformed by visual technology, from a magical world that dives into the myths of today.

At 10 years of age, Akram Khan played Mowgli in Akademi’s Indian dance production The Adventures of Mowgli. Decades after this pivotal moment, Khan wants to reunite with this well-known and familiar story from another perspective, and to embrace it with a new sense of urgency, through the lens of today’s children – those who will inherit our world and become our future storytellers.

Jungle Book Reimagined is will speak to all generations as a step to remind, to relearn and to reimagine a new world together.
